When I started going to the gym, I had a really hard time finding a healthy snack with a reasonable amount of protein. It seemed like everything I could find was sugary, low in protein, and unhealthy! Well, I have to tell you, everything changed when I made this Greek Yogurt bagel recipe! How can just three ingredients make such good bagels? It reminded me of the 2-ingredient sweet potato pancakes recipe!
Today I'll teach you my "secret" bagel recipe, which I make practically every week!
Didn't they turn out amazing? I always like to post a photo of the final result of my recipes before I get started. It just makes you even more eager to try them! But well, there's only one way for that to happen: you need to start making this recipe. Shall we?
What You’ll Need
To make this sugar-free bagel recipe, you'll only need three ingredients. You'll notice I listed five ingredients below, but two of them are actually optional.
The butter, which adds a bit of flavor and helps the bagels brown a bit more in the oven, and the seeds, which add a bit of flavor, but I actually used them to make the bagels prettier for photos. They're optional, but I actually recommend using them, especially the butter.
1 cup Self rising flour (200g) – It is preferable to use this flour because it already includes baking powder and salt.
1 cup Greek yogurt (200g) – If you want a healthy, protein-rich recipe, use plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt. I also use it in my Greek Yogurt Pizza Dough, which turns out soft and chewy every time.
1 ¼ cups Mozzarella (130g) – I recommend using Low-moisture mozzarella so the dough isn’t too wet
1 tbs Butter melted (optional) - Butter helps make bagels more golden brown when baked, and it also makes them tastier.
Seeds for sprinkling (optional) - It helps make the baggels prettier and tastier. They're completely optional.
I know it's a bit of work, but I recommend reading the ingredient notes because they're essential for the recipe to turn out perfectly. I'm not a big fan of reading the small ingredient notes either, but trust me, it's worth it, especially when you take these bagels out of the oven!
How To Make 3-Ingredient Greek Yogurt Bagels
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
In a bowl, mix the flour and yogurt, mozzarella until you get a smooth dough. It should be soft but not sticky. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour.
Divide the dough into equal pieces and roll them into balls. The dough was enough for me to make about 5 bagels, but if you want smaller bagels you can make about 8. It's up to you!
Arrange the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with melted butter and sprinkle with seeds. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
Let them cool slightly and serve warm! My bagels turned out simply perfect! They really look beautiful, don't you think? It seems impossible that they could be so easy and quick to make!
Take another look at the final result below, to make you even more excited to try this recipe.
Some Variations You Will LOVE!
I always like to give some tips on ingredient variations before finishing my articles. Sometimes you might not have an ingredient and still want to make the recipe, right? I know how it is; it happens to everyone!
Want sweeter bagels? You can add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey. The bagels will have more flavor, and of course, they'll be a little sweeter. If you’re craving something on the sweeter side, these 3-Ingredient Apple Yogurt Rolls are a simple option too.
Love cheese? Add a little parmesan on top of the bagels before cooking. It's a cheese lover's delight!
Don't have self-rising flour? It's easy to make your own! Make your own by mixing 1 cup all-purpose flour + 1 ½ tsp baking powder + ¼ tsp salt.
No mozzarella? It's simple! Use cheddar, parmesan, or a cheese blend for different flavors!
Since this bagel recipe only uses 3 ingredients (actually, I put 5, I know…), there aren't many more variations we can make, but I believe I've mentioned the most important ones!
Can I freeze or refrigerate bagels?
If you've made a lot of bagels and don't know what to do with them, don't worry!
You can refrigerate them for up to 3 days without losing their flavor, but be sure to store them in a sealed container or zip-top bag. If you don't, they'll dry out a bit. When this happens, I usually toast them a little before eating them!
If you don't think you'll be eating them within 3 days, I recommend freezing them. You can keep them in the freezer for up to 2 months without losing their flavor! Just be sure to freeze them as soon as they're finished baking and cooling; this way, they'll preserve all their flavor and freshness.
If you're like me, you don't want to waste anything, so it's better to freeze it and eat it later than to throw it away, without a doubt.
And here we are after another article! It's been so exciting making and writing all these recipes for you. I feel more and more energized to continue sharing this wonderful experience with you!
